"Cheer Up Winnie" quilt project progress- 1st blocks arrive!

Yesterday, April 27th the first block arrived for my dear friend Winnie's "cheer up" quilt. Winnie had major surgery April, 19th and was to get out of ICU yesterday. Dear Jane friends from several "lists" are mailing blocks of any size to me to make into the quilt for Winnie. You can see her website here Winnie wrote the Tidbits to the main dear jane list ( and they were enjoyed by many. Maybe when she is feeling back up to snuff (just WHAT does that mean anyway?) she could post some Tidbits again? Anyway, here are the first blocks to arrive.

Connie Ross' was the first to arrive ( the applique'd cat)

Janet Rausch's KITE arrived today! Wow how cool is that she sent a kite!

Claudia sent a "poof" block which she reverse applique'd an area in the center to use as a siggie section and then pigma penned some lovely flower accents around the outside of it. I can hardly wait to see what block arrive next! CORRECTION: Claudia sent a Hannah Lou's Hearts block! In my defense "my" poof block is not the "right" way so I made a big mistake. So apologies to Claudia for messing up her block's name and now I will try once again to load the pics. I tried three times when I initially did this post. so here goes again! NOTE: 5/3/06 trying yet aaaaa gain to upload these pics. here's hoping!

Thank you for reading and thank you for participating in this project for Winnie who is so dear to my heart!

Second Triangle Finished!

April 10, 2006 at 2:15pm I finished the second triangle for the quilt. In the pictures you can see the full block area and a closeup of the fabrics making up the lotus blossom.

April 7th 2nd triangle progress

On Friday, April 7th I managed to do pieces 90-101 on the 2nd triangle for the wedding quilt. It took me 3 1/2 hours to do those and I spent an additional 1 1/2 hours preparing the rest of the lotus blossom pieces.

As you can see in the picture it is nearly done!

April 6th, 5th, and 4th read it from the bottom up!

Today is April 6th and I am once again working on the triangle. I have put on pieced 75-81 this morning and will work on it again right after I post this. I'll take the picture of the progress when I get home and see about posting it either tonight or tomorrow. It is nearly time to make a decision regarding the quilting on this. I think I am due for a trip to JoAnn's to buy a very high loft polyester batting to use for the trapunto portions. The Thermore brand I generally use is so thin (1/16th of an inch thick) that it would take layers and layers of it to make the trapunto areas puffy enough. I am also, now leaning towards using just plain white muslin on the backing. After all if I am going to do all of that work of hand quilting it and designing trapunto areas I really want it to show on the back side well!

I went to work on the triangle on the 5th and the next piece was a green! Alas, I did not have any green fabrics with me. As it turns out the next piece was not green but part of the lotus blossom and it would have been a shade of purple, lavendar, lilac..... sigh. I ended up knitting on some of the soap socks for the Christmas Spa baskets. So progress was made on something, just not on the wedding quilt this day. And this is what the second triangle looks like after pieces 69-74 are added in 1 1/4 hours on April 4th. Also, you can see the difference in the picture from taking it in full light versus how I usually take it... Lying on the floor in the dining room with a flash.

Progress after 3 1/2 hours on April 3rd pieces 57-68. I am beginning to see some real hope on finishing this thing some time in the future. Yea!
